María Fernanda Espinosa has over a decade of experience working as a public official on behalf of the Ecuadorian people as the Minister of National Defense, Minister of Coordination of Heritage, and Minister of Foreign Affairs. She has also served as a diplomat and human rights advocate with over twenty years of experience in multilateral affairs, including her appointment as Permanent Representative to the UN and the President of the United Nations 73rd session of the General Assembly.
