Ziyad Motala is a Professor of Law at Howard University School of Law and former Director of the Comparative and International Law Program at the University of Western Cape. He has also served as an Honorary Professor of Law at the University of Western Cape and taught at Northwestern Law School and Chicago-Kent College of Law. Originally from Durban, South Africa, Motala was active in the liberation struggle and holds degrees from the University of Natal and Northwestern University. An authority on international, constitutional, and comparative law, he has delivered papers globally and coordinated seminars on human rights for the United Nations. Motala co-authored ‘Constitutional Options For a Democratic South Africa: A Comparative Perspective’ and has written extensively on constitutional law, including authoring over 80 law reviews, journal articles, and books.
