The Pakistan Army is intensifying counter-terrorism efforts amid concerns over misinformation and the politicization of national security issues.

In a recent press conference, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), addressed the Pakistan Army’s concerns over the surge in misinformation and detailed the vigorous counter-terrorism efforts undertaken this year. The briefing highlighted key operations and countered the politicization of national security issues, offering a clear perspective on the military’s unwavering commitment to protecting the nation.

General Chaudhry began by emphasizing the alarming increase in false propaganda against the Pakistan Army. He asserted that such misinformation not only tarnishes the military’s image but also jeopardizes national unity and stability. The conference aimed to present the Army’s viewpoint on these pressing issues and counteract the intentional spread of misleading narratives.

Focusing on counter-terrorism operations, General Chaudhry revealed that 22,409 operations have been conducted against terrorists this year alone, with approximately 122 operations occurring daily—averaging four to five per hour. These extensive efforts, however, have come at a high cost, with 137 officers and soldiers losing their lives in the line of duty. These figures highlight the relentless dedication and sacrifices of the armed forces in safeguarding national security and combating terrorism.

A significant highlight of the conference was Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, a comprehensive and coordinated anti-terrorism campaign. General Chaudhry explained that this operation is not merely a military action but a holistic vision aimed at restructuring and bolstering ongoing counter-terrorism efforts. The operation seeks to establish peace and stability by tackling the root causes of terrorism and dismantling the networks of terrorists and their criminal associates. A recent apex committee meeting, attended by relevant ministers, chief ministers, and other key stakeholders, underscored the need for national consensus on counter-terrorism and emphasized the importance of the operation for Pakistan’s future.

General Chaudhry highlighted that Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, along with other sensitive issues, has been unjustly politicized. He noted that following the committee’s statement, there were deliberate attempts to spread misconceptions and create a false narrative, aiming to make the operation controversial. He identified a strong lobby working to undermine the success of this critical campaign, driven by vested interests rather than the national good. The general stressed that the fight against terrorism is a matter of survival for Pakistan. Operation Azm-e-Istehkam is designed not only to eliminate terrorism but also to propel the country forward, ensuring a stable and secure environment for its citizens.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s approval of the anti-terrorism campaign reinforces the government’s commitment to the operation. The apex committee’s endorsement of Operation Azm-e-Istehkam highlights the necessity of a unified approach to counter-terrorism, stressing the importance of national consensus and collective action. General Chaudhry reiterated that the operation’s goal is to reorganize and enhance the current counter-terrorism efforts, ensuring they are more effective and comprehensive. The focus is on a coordinated approach involving all relevant stakeholders, addressing all facets of terrorism and its underlying causes.

The ongoing counter-terrorism operations reflect the unwavering commitment of the armed forces to this cause. With around 122 operations conducted daily, the military’s efforts are relentless, focusing on dismantling terrorist networks and ensuring national security. General Chaudhry emphasized that Operation Azm-e-Istehkam is not only about eliminating immediate threats but also about establishing long-term peace and stability. The operation aims to create an environment where terrorism cannot thrive, enabling the country to progress and develop without the constant threat of violence and instability.

Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry’s press conference provided a comprehensive overview of the Pakistan Army’s efforts to combat terrorism and counter misinformation. By highlighting the extensive operations and the strategic vision of Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, the conference underscored the military’s dedication to national security and the necessity of a united front against terrorism. As Pakistan continues to face these challenges, the importance of accurate information, national consensus, and coordinated efforts remains paramount in securing a prosperous future for the country.
