John Covert is a second year MA candidate at the Elliot School of International Affairs at George Washington University, where he is studying security policy, with a concentration on U.S. national security. John was born and raised in Moorestown, New Jersey, just outside of Philadelphia. He is a 2016 graduate of The Pennsylvania State University, where he majored in history. Since graduating, John has worked in a variety of industries, ranging from the mortgage sector to health care, but has always planned on pursuing a career in international affairs and national security. John has a variety of interests related to U.S. national security, with a particular focus on the Middle East, specifically Iran and Iraq. After graduate school he plans to seek a career that allows him to advise U.S. policy makers on issues of foreign affairs and national security. When he isn’t immersed in schoolwork or work, he enjoys playing and making music and is a loyal supporter and follower of all of Philadelphia’s major four sports teams.
