Manata Hashemi is a sociologist, ethnographer, and the Farzaneh Family Assistant Professor of Iranian Studies in the Department of International and Area Studies at the University of Oklahoma. Her work examines how disenfranchised groups manage and find meaning under conditions of hardship, particularly in urban environments marked by economic insecurity. She focuses on the experiences of the marginalized, Middle Eastern poor.
