Sophie Brain currently works as a Research Officer at the Commonwealth Secretariat looking at the issues affecting small states and working towards improving their economic development. She is passionate about the intersection between economics and crime and is currently researching how reducing crime in Caribbean countries can improve their financing for development. Prior to this, she worked at UNDP within the Regional Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean, contributing to research on insecurity and economic issues faced by middle income countries. She has also spent time at the European Commission focusing on the drivers of citizen insecurity in Latin America and the Caribbean. She holds a degree in Economics and Strategy from Imperial College in London.
